"Toy Time: Playful Pieces" features a display of vintage playthings, including dolls, trucks, trains, outdoor items, puzzles, board games and more. It will be on exhibit through Nov. 5.
"The toy exhibit idea came from a collaborative meeting of the museum staff, as we discussed the collections we felt would be interesting for our visitors to explore," said Executive Director Brigid Guertin.
Guertin said the exhibit is interesting to explore and engages others to visit as well.
The toy exhibit showcases many vintage toys such as original Barbie Dolls, created by Ruth Handler, manufactured by Mattel Inc. and launched in 1959. A newer doll on display is Molly McIntire, one of the first three historical of the American Girl Dolls. Molly, who represents the World War II era, was archived in 2013 along with her entire collection of items.
Other toys on display include handmade dollhouses, board games, and original cast-iron o-gage first generation Lionel train sets. In the middle of the museum is a giant cardboard-made World War II tank created by Broadview Middle School students.
"It was so big, it had to be brought in by a trailer," Guertin said.
